Went to the shop to see what’s up. Bumper is off the car and the exhaust is still on there, nothing has really been completed. Went into the office to ask for a status update, and still no word on the exhaust’s ETA. The guy said, “did you know that your exhaust has motors that open and close it?” I responded with, “Yes and the aftermarket unit I found also has the valves, and you just transfer the existing solenoids over to it...” “Yeah, that’s the problem, the motor for the right side exhaust was damaged. Our parts guy is at lunch and I’ll try to get you an update later today.”
Well fuck, there goes my plan of doing the exhaust myself this week.

What if...you just leave those valves open all the time

Valves add weight, which makes you slower. Simplify and add lightness...

I think you should kick it old school... chambered exhaus t! Super light weight, straight through, mean sound, and no flappy valves to worry about!

Then I would need something to tell it that the solenoids are wo rking.

Obviously that just means you need to leave them open all the time.

Hey Arch,
Not the best place to be sure
, but I don’t see you on the Discord, nor do I see many opportunities left to ask, but,
how do you like your SS 1LE?
— Specifically how was it outside of being munted in the butt
-regions by a distracted driver?
I’m considering a 20/21' SS 1LE as a long-term Swiss Army knife car. It will be my daily, will be used for road trips (as long as the Recaros are more supportive
than the meh standard seats),
will eventually see
AutoX and
in a few years I’d like to move to
HPDE and track days.
My favorite do-all
daily car so far has been an
ND Mazda Miata
, but I
need a 2+2 since what is the fun in having a fun car, if your kiddo’s can’t be passenger to the shenanigan
s
. I considered a 2SS ‘vert briefly, but
a convertible Miata is a far different experience from most modern convertibles
. Manually actuating the top from up to down, or back again in a mere two seconds is a gold standard for me
, and is quintessential
to the experience — not sure I can handle the wank-factor of holding a button for thirty-five seconds while the car does a Supreme
Bird of Paradise-like mating dance around me the whole time. The added weight, loss to chassis integrity, and concern for long-term durability of motorized ‘vert tops are other big detractors that are of concern, though maybe misplaced in my assumptions
. It also isn’t available as a 1LE and the 1LE bits are a big part of the draw for me.
Anything you don’t like? How do you feel about the back seas? How about living with it on a daily basis - risk factors/concerns? The Goodyear F1SC’s seem like they’ll be short lived and not sure I want to keep putting that class of tire on a street car — if I go 1LE, I’ll be looking at more rain-friendly high-performance summer compounds (Maybe Mich PS4's, if they are available in the beefy wheel widths
).
I’ve driven two modern Camaros so far. A
V6/10-spd 1LT ‘vert
that I rented for a week
and a V8/10-spd 2SS ‘vert I test drove at a dealer
. I enjoyed both, the V6 is shockingly good and potent, but something felt
off about not having the V8 soundtrack in a Camaro, which is illogical, but logic was checked at the CUV aisle
. Sadly none of the dealers presently have manuals to benchmark, let alone an SS
1LE
,
but I’m sure the TR6060 is a dream
. The 10Spd was great with both engines, but felt much better behind the V6. Off the line the SS had the typical auto slop, for some reason it was less present in the V6, or maybe my expectations were just different given the power delta and respective
powerbands.
I appreciate the input as opinions and experiences with the 1LE are understandably scarce . If I don’t go the SS 1LE route, I’m likely to couch my impractical car considerations altogether, look at an ALFA Romeo Giulia 2.0T; a great car that keeps good looks and a wonderful chassis, but a begrudging compromise to my love of manuals and V8 rumbles.

The car is fantastic, gas mileage is predictably shitty, and the back seat is a shelf not intended for human occupation

Well, yea, pretty sure that is exactly how the brochure reads. ;)
What has your experience been with the tires? Did they last 300 miles to wear bars? Get replaced with something more daily-driver friendly?

Bought mine cpo, tires were pilot sport 4s, but it was the winter, so I pulled them off for the BFG as comps
